CORE Tanzania is working to give children in rural Tanzania the chance to get a quality education.
The Problem
Many rural schools in Tanzania are over-crowded, under-resourced, and poorly performing. Families can’t afford to send their children to higher-quality schools in town.
Our Response
Provide a new, high-quality local alternative that is within villagers’ means.
In keeping with the Swahili proverb, “Haba na haba hujaza kibaba“—Little by little fills the jar—we are beginning with one school in one rural community.
Our Impact
Helping to break the cycle of poverty by empowering children to improve their own lives.
Making Education Accessible
When this picture was taken, these two boys had never attended school.
Empowering Girls
Access to quality education can help to keep children, and especially girls, in school.
Promoting Sustainability
We believe that a clean and healthy environment is vital to a positive future for the children of Tanzania. We are committed to promoting environmental sustainability in how we build, in how we operate, and in what we teach.
Community Involvement
We recognize the importance of community buy-in and community support. Our founder grew up in the village of Bushasha, where we are building our first school. Because of this close connection with the local people, we can ensure that the community is involved every step of the way.
Bushasha Village demonstrated their strong support by donating the 15-acre plot of land where Twegashe Primary School is located. They have recently donated an additional 30 acres so the school has room to expand and to grow more food for student meals.
Accountability
We’re an all-volunteer organization, so donations go directly toward programming costs—cement to build the school, student desks, teacher salaries, breakfast for students…

Help us plant trees.
The 15-acre Twegashe School site didn’t have a single tree when we started construction in 2019. Trees are under siege all over the village, as people gather firewood and cut trees to make charcoal or to fire kilns for brick-baking. Frequent burning of grass fields kills young trees and prevents new trees from taking hold.
To counter this trend and help do our part in the battle against climate change, we’re planting trees! You can join the effort by donating to our tree fund.
Raincoats for kids!
Help keep kids dry on their way to school during the rainy season by donating to the Twegashe Raincoat Fund.
